Hands-On Hardware.
Open Source Intelligence.

From Raytheon phased arrays to Jetson Nano edge AI — decades of real engineering, now supercharged with open source AI. No vendor lock-in. No black boxes. Real builds.

Let's Spark Something
The Foundation

The Trinity of Creation

Three meanings. One mission. Everything Sparked Matter does lives at the intersection of all three.

🔥

It Matters

We only take on problems worth solving — ones with real stakes for real people and industries.

💡

Subject Matter

30+ years of engineering depth across power, defense, enterprise, and edge AI. The breadth backs up the brainstorm.

Physical Matter

From idea to hardware. We don't just consult — we wire, test, and build things that work in the real world.

Old-school engineering wisdom meets new-school AI thinking — on call when you need it, not when you don't.

Let's talk
Where We Work

Built for the Industries That Build Things

Specialized focus on sectors where hardware meets software — and where open source can unlock real freedom.

Marine

Power & Instrumentation

Victron systems, NMEA 2000, and CAN bus integration. Solar, LiFePO₄, inverters, and instrumentation that talk to each other — and to you.

Agriculture

Field Tech & Right to Repair

J1939 CAN bus systems, tractor diagnostics, and equipment liberation from proprietary lock-out.

Edge AI

Hardware Intelligence

Jetson Nano, Raspberry Pi, and custom edge builds with open source AI. No cloud dependency required.

Systems Integration

Designed in Tools You Own Outright

Marine power and instrumentation built end to end — Victron GX and Venus OS, NMEA 2000 and CAN bus, LiFePO₄ banks, solar, and inverter systems, bridged so your batteries, charge controllers, and chartplotter all speak the same language.

The engineering happens in open tooling: FreeCAD for hull, structure, conduit runs, and cable harnesses; KiCad for custom control boards; Raspberry Pi and Jetson for edge compute when the job calls for it. Every model, schematic, and script is yours — no per-seat licenses, no vendor lock-in, no black box you can't automate around.

From edge to action. Hands on the hardware, not just advice on a slide.

Bus & Instrumentation

Your Boat Already Knows. Let It Tell You.

NMEA 2000 and CAN bus carry far more than what your factory display chooses to show. We build the bridge between them using open source hardware — reading the traffic already on the wire, and surfacing the metrics you actually care about instead of the ones a vendor decided you'd get.

That means custom display panels built around your priorities. Automation that fires on real conditions, not menu presets. And when a manufacturer runs a proprietary protocol alongside the standard, we translate it onto NMEA 2000 so the rest of the system can finally see it — turning a closed component into a participating one.

Deeper diagnostics. No black boxes. Nothing you can't take with you.

Power Systems

Storage That Reports for Duty

Intelligent charging built around Victron — integrated with modern marine lithium iron phosphate banks, and architected so emerging solid-state chemistries drop in when they're ready rather than forcing a rebuild.

Charge controllers, BMS data, inverter state, and shore/solar/alternator sources brought onto one bus and one honest picture of what your power system is actually doing — at anchor, underway, or sitting on the hard through a season.

Know your state of charge. Not your best guess at it.

Hybrid Propulsion

Diesel, Electric, or Honestly Both

Hybrid-electric power plants are where marine propulsion is heading, and the integration is the hard part — coordinating generation, storage, and drive so the boat makes the right call automatically instead of asking you to.

We work through the whole envelope: sizing, source switching, regeneration under sail, thermal and load management, and the instrumentation to prove it's behaving the way the spec said it would.

Built to be understood, serviced, and modified — by you.

Agriculture

The Data Is Yours. So Is the Wrench.

The same bus work applies on land. J1939 and CAN systems carry the machine's real story — engine, hydraulics, implement state, fault codes — and we build custom hardware to read it, log it, and act on it without waiting on a dealer terminal or a subscription to see your own equipment.

From there it extends: GPS guidance and precision positioning, LiDAR for terrain, obstacle, and canopy sensing, and drone integration for scouting, mapping, and imagery that feeds back into the systems already running in the cab.

Mapping is built in open tooling and stays on your hardware — field boundaries, elevation, yield and coverage layers you can export, overlay, and actually keep. Add thermal and low-light imaging with edge inference, and the machine keeps working after dark: livestock and wildlife spotted in the dark, irrigation leaks and bearing heat showing up as temperature before they show up as failure.

Where a manufacturer has locked a function behind proprietary tooling, there is almost always an open path to the same result — one you own, can repair in the field, and don't have to renegotiate every season.

Right to repair, engineered — not just argued.

Manufacturing Operations

Craft on the Floor. Clarity Behind It.

Some shops are exceptional at what they build and carry the operational side on memory, whiteboards, and a few people who know where everything is. That works — until it's the bottleneck. We streamline the layer behind the craft without touching the craft itself.

Shop-floor networking and connectivity, build tracking from order through delivery, and automation of the repetitive administrative work that pulls skilled hands off the tools. Then AI-based analytics on top: where the schedule actually slips, which steps quietly consume the most labor, what the historical build data already knows about your lead times.

Thirty years on the technical side of enterprise networks and MRP/ERP systems — the engineer in the room when projects got tracked and processes got improved. Applied at the scale of a shop that would rather stay a shop.

Faster throughput. Same standards. Nothing outsourced that shouldn't be.
